I often come across people who practically laugh at the idea that a simple, everyday cream or personal care product, could actually affect our quality of life. As it’s often part of a conversation, here are just some of my thoughts on this…
Can skincare and cosmetic products affect our health? Isn’t our exposure very limited?
Anything you put on your skin DOES get absorbed by at least 60%, which means that if you are using synthetic products, then the toxic cocktail you thought you were avoiding, is now really burdening your body with a range of harmful substances and potential carcinogens. Just picture all those products you use daily, from the moment you wake up, to the time you go to sleep.
Just to clarify something here: When I mention skin care, I do not just mean creams and lotions, but anything that has to do with “hygiene”, “beauty” and cleanliness – the way that advertising has conveyed these principles to us. All of the products that we use on a daily basis (shower gel, hand soap, shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, deodorant, makeup, shaving cream, perfumes, colognes, etc) are ingested, inhaled and absorbed through the skin.
The skin is a semi-permeable membrane, so it stands to reason that what you put on it will penetrate into the body. The skin’s function is, in part, to allow non-threatening substances enter the body and deny access to those that it deems dangerous. Due to the severely high amount of synthetic chemicals we are exposed to daily, the skin can only be so effective in protecting us. As a result, many harmful substances pass through unobstructed. As if this was not enough, even more synthetics are included in skincare and cosmetic products to ensure that otherwise blocked ingredients, will now penetrate deeper into the skin.
Ok, ok, no need to be so alarmed 🙂 I always say that knowledge provides us with power and the ability to make choices that are better and healthier for us and our families, and the environment. Many scientists doing research in the field of cancer and other degenerative illnesses, warn consumers about the dangerousness of toxic chemicals. They suggest, instead, that we use organic cosmetics and skincare free from harmful substances and to follow an organic diet, as much as possible. By doing this, you are effectively reducing your toxic load, while at the same time taking a step forward towards better environmental conditions and animal welfare.
And since we are discussing organic cosmetics and skincare, what can be more to the point than Visible Results? Consider the fact that synthetic ingredients are not bio-identical with our skin and body. Unadulterated pure plant ingredients are! As a result of the structural complexity of pure plant ingredients, the results we can get from them are not only completely safe, but also immediate and brilliant. No need to worry about your skin “getting used to them” either; active plant ingredients continue to interact with the skin’s live mechanisms to give you the best results every day. Just what your skin is begging for – to always look its best.
What else can we do?
Use our skin to our advantage! Feed it with organic, pure, plant ingredients that will strengthen the skin’s inherent protective mechanisms. This renders the skin more resilient, and stronger against environmental aggressors, thus it is better equipped to respond to aging. Let me make this clear: Not only are you using phytonutrients and vitamins with potent anti-aging properties, but these same ingredients are strengthening your skin’s own anti-aging processes. What could be better?! But that’s not all… These ingredients will end up inside the body, and instead of doing harm, they can actually support and fortify the immune system; especially when used alongside a healthy, organic diet.
AND… Recent research has indicated that people are attracted to naturally glowing skin, which results from consumption of many fruits and vegetables – as opposed to suntanned skin.
So remember… Healthy skin is beautiful skin!
